Aylesbury Nightstop is an emergency, host-accommodation scheme which provides young people (16-25yrs) with emergency accommodation in volunteers homes for a night or a few nights, according to need.
Youth Concern has a number of volunteer opportunities within its Aylesbury Nightstop project, which exists to help prevent young people having to sofa-surf or sleep rough. Nightstop UK is the national project run by Homelessness charity DePaul UK, which has been supporting more than 40 regional Nightstop schemes for more than 20 years. There have been no major incidents in any of the schemes since the outset. We have a range of volunteer jobs available that will enable you to help homeless young people aged 16-25.
Our Nightstop hosts provide an occasional, temporary room for a young person facing a homelessness crisis. You will need to have a spare room and be happy to provide washing facilities and an evening meal. Your expenses will be paid and we will provide ongoing training and support including a 24 hour on-call support line. The young person will be supported by Youth Concern staff during the daytime. All young people are risk assessed and the house rules are clearly explained to the young person prior to being placed in a host house. Accommodation is offered on a night by night basis.

The volunteer driver’s main role is to transport the young person to the host’s house. Occasionally you may be required to take the young person to appointments.
This volunteer job requires some previous experience working within young people’s services, school, or mentoring services or similar. You will be given a case load of young people to support with a view to helping them through their period of homelessness into one of more stability.
