Youth Concern’s primary service is our young people’s Drop-in Centre, the Uptown Coffee Bar, which is located on Whitehill Lane, next to Whitehill Doctors’ surgery. The Drop-in Centre is for young people aged 13 to 25 . It’s open Tuesday til Friday 12pm-6pm and is staffed by experienced staff and a team of volunteers.
We welcome any young person to the Drop-in. You may be a young person who wants to find somewhere free to hang out and chill with your mates. The Drop-in is a friendly, relaxed space with a pool table, table tennis, free WiFi and a warm welcome.
You can also use our Music Studio. Young people often tell us that it’s a great place to try out music production for the first time, and lots of young people come in to compose and record their own tracks or instrumentals.
So why not, give it a go, and see if you get hooked?
The Drop-in is also somewhere you can access information, guidance or support too. Our team of youth workers are always on hand to listen to any problem you may have, help you consider your options and point you in the right direction. You might have a housing or benefits problem; you may want some support with an issue at home or at school or you might be worried that you are have a drugs or alcohol issue. We will keep what you tell us in the strictest of confidence unless you or someone else is at serious risk of serious harm.
We can offer practical help too. We feel it’s best to help you find the answers to your own issues rather than thinking we know best. But if you need it, we will go to the Council with you if you are homeless and advocate on your behalf or attend court with you if needs be. If you have a difficulty that needs more specialist support we can assist you in finding the right person to speak to.
